Among mega-gifts of $50 million or more 71% were directed to organizations located within the same state as the donor.
In-state recipients received 176 mega-gifts of $50 million or more compared to 71 gifts made to out-of-state recipients. However, out-of-state recipients received a larger share of total giving by value - $22.30 billion, compared to $17.60 billion for in-state recipients.

Important note: This geographic analysis above was conducted using a subset of gifts of $50 million or more for which geographic information was available. Gifts involving donors or recipient organizations operating nationally, as well as gifts with a broader geographic scope (e.g., national, regional such as Midwest or Pacific Northwest, or multi-state), were excluded from this analysis. Gifts categorized within the International/ Overseas subsector were also not included.
